Tree planting!
We had really 2 good days last friday and saturday planting trees. On Friday the group from Blyth Star Enterprises came, it was a blizzard to start with, so we didn’t plant trees, but did start to spread the muck out in the existing orchard. In the afternoon, the sun came out and we planted 54 trees. On Saturday the weather was sunny (bit cold!) and we were joined by about 12 people from Living woods North East and 8 GCF members. everyone worked really hard and planted 150 trees. So the stretch of shelterbelt to the gate in the west hedge is now completed. Living woods people lit a fire and we heated soup and shared cake (thanks to wendy).

We will be tree planting this Thursday 15th Feb and Friday 16th Feb. On Thursday the fruit and nut trees will be delivered. To save double-handling and heeling-in we intend to plant some of the large bare rooted trees straight into their marked positions. This includes fruit trees so the method is the same as in the orchard. Alley Row 5 is marked up, and Alley Row 3 will hopefully get marked up on Thursday morning. There are also spot planting of crab apples and cobnuts in the main shelterbelt and the south west shelterbelt. On Thursday two people from the Woodland Trust, who fund the project, will be coming up to help us plant trees.
Friday 16th Feb – more tree planting, please come along. if you can bring a spade and a hammer, that’s great, if not dont worry there will be some on the field.
