Apple Tree Grafting
No Comments
Last weekend we had a very special opportunity: to learn how to graft apple trees. What an amazing course! We learnt why we should graft rather than grow from pips, about different rootstocks, the technique of cutting scions, the all-important Cambian layer. Then we got to graft two apple trees and take them home. Though tempted by a cider apple type, I went with one dessert (Discovery) and one cooking apple (Cats Head). Can’t wait for the Fruit ID course later in the year and the Apple Tree pruning course.
