Garlic, Potatoes and Soil Association Inspection
So much going on in the field today. Buckets of garlic were planted in the black plastic. A whopping 361.7kg potatoes were harvested. If you as a member have not yet received potatoes, they are coming!
The white potatoes are Kestrel, – “Kestrels are best known for their unique purple blush, a naturally occurring trait which is passed on from their parent variety, the Cara potato. Perfect for mashing, roasting, boiling and frying, Kestrels are a highly versatile variety with a delicious slightly-sweet flavour.” The Red potatoes are Sarpo Mira, These are bred for blight resistance in organic growing. They are good for chips and roasties but do not cook easily for boiled or mash.
To top it all, we had a visit from the Soil Association to discuss Organic Certification. We’ll update you on that process in due course.
